This is a fun tour poster for the Monkees that I illustrated. I had not seen any posters that had actual monkeys standing in for the band. I made them resemble Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith (no longer in the band but I put in a guitarist monkey that had some of his characteristics for the heck of it)
The type of monkey I used in this illustration are called rhesus macaque monkeys. They are one of the most common type of monkeys in the world. They are all over India and parts of Africa. My first impulse was to use chimpanzees, since they look funnier and cuter, but after researching them, I found that they are not really monkeys but are part of the ape family.

This Bakersfield Fox Theater date is the one featured on the today show where Al Roker got on stage.
